Coron Island, in the north of Palawan, has become one of the prime tourist destinations in the Philippines. It is an area of more than two hundred islands, many with white beaches and spectacular caves. Culion Island, Busuanga Island and Linapacan Island are the other three main islands that make up the Calamian group of islands. In the narrow passageways between Gutob and Sangat are more than 10 spectacular dive sites to be found. The US Navy launched one of the largest airstrikes on September 24th, 1944 and said to have sunk more than 24 Japanese vessels, which had camouflaged themselves with trees trying to look like small islands.
Right in Coron Town you will find Mount Tapyas, a 600 meter high hill which can be reached by steps and gives you an outstanding view at Coron Bay and all its pristine islands. Other highlights on Coron Island are the fresh waters of Cayangan Lake (Kayangan Lake), the beauty of Banol Beach and the warm 40 degrees waters of the salt water Makinit Hot Spring. Barracuda Lake has thermal layers that can reach 35 degrees the deeper you dive not disturbing its many barracudas. You can visit Sangat island, Cagbatan Island (CYC Island), climb to Mount Darala, visit Black Island beach on Malajon Island or take one of the boat cruises while island hopping and enjoying the spectacular scenery of Coron Bay.
Diving enthusiasts can find many wrecks, remembering of its rich World War II history. Most world-renowned diving sites are situated close to each other consisting out of Japanese tankers, freighters and planes. Busuanga Island provides many limestone cliffs, mangroves and underwater caves. Most tourists spend the night in Salvacion, which is a small town perfect to relax in this tropical paradise. Besides its fantastic wrecks you will mostly be diving along steep walls filled with tuna and jacks. Other species found are turtles, mantas and the endangered dugong lives on the few grassy dive sites around Dimayka. It is also possible to book liveaboard tours and speedboat trips to Apo Reef Natural Park in between Palawan and Mindoro.

Puerto Galera is approximately 100 miles South of Manila and is situated on the northern peninsula of Mindoro Island. It is separated from Luzon by the Verde Island passage which waters are flushed by the current of the South China Sea. Current can be very strong up to 6 knots which makes some of the sites a spectacular ride alive with fish life. So diving with a professional Divemaster or Instructor who knows the area and the currents is very important. The passage is very deep so clear water is very common to the dive sites of Puerto Galera along with a fantastic variety of large and small aquatic creatures. The variety of hard and soft corals along with hundreds of species of of tropical fish life makes it one of the most popular dive destinations in the Philippines that offers world class dive sites, The 5km foreshore is a protected area and a marine sanctuaryThe visibility varies from 10m/30ft up to 30m/100ft and sometimes even better depending on the water temperature, current strength and wind direction. The best diving conditions can be from April to September with water temperatures of up to 29 degrees C, clam seas and better visibility. The water temperature can get as low as 22 degrees around December on the deeper dives and the area does have a lot of thermo clines with clear cool water due to the deep channel and strong currents. The area can be dived all year round. Typhoon season is usually from the end of July until the end of November but they usually pass well North East of Puerto Galera creating sometimes strong winds, rain and choppy seas. Depending on the wind direction and sea conditions there are always areas which are sheltered to dive. Most of the dive sites are within a few minutes boat ride from most of the dive centers. There are sites for all levels of training from the beginner, advanced experience diver and the deeper sites for Technical and Trimix Divers. Day dive trips can be made to some of the outer Islands like Verde, Chicken Feather and Maricaban Island which offer some spectacular Reefs, Walls and Pinnacles. Most Dive Centers offer Nitrox courses and Tank Fills but only a few are set up for Technical and Trimix Diving
