Verde Island is a small island between the provinces Batangas and Oriental Mindoro. The Verde Island Passages is one of the busiest shipping lanes with a lot of traffic between Luzon, Manila and the south of the Philippines. Verde Island can be reached in less than an hour by banca from Anilao and Puerto Galera. There are some splendid beaches, a museum with a lot of Spanish and Chinese artifacts and excellent caves and coves.
The two most popular dive sites are without doubt the steep Pinnacles and the tumbling currents at the canyons of the Washing Machine. Another exhilarating spot is searching for remains of a Spanish galleon that sank in 1620. While searching the shoreline and shallow waters, it is still possible to find broken Chinese porcelain and other artifacts. Verde Island is a great scuba diving destination with a few spectacular dive sites unique to most other locations in the world. Its reefs have great bio-diversity and are filled with threatened species such as several kinds of turtles and giant clams.
